Vodafone Group Digital Agile Transformation – Digital IT phase
Led the first Agile squad, consisting of software engineers (Backed, Frontend, QA, DevOps), to the production of the first in-house developed digital product of the organization.
I set up a colocation work model with the vendor in order for the team to gain knowledge of the existing technology stack and enable themselves to write new software. In parallel, we started the technological transformation by replacing Oracle CMS with Contentful as a headless CMS and writing React on an AWS node which hosted a NodeJS for the front end and a Next project for the backend for frontend, handling all the core IT integrations [CRM, SAP, Billing, Real-time systems via OSB and ESB].
We carved the path on how an in-house team should operate in order to deliver. We then passed on this knowledge to the other 3 Digital IT squads in order for them to start operating. During this time I had also the role of the Scrum master in the team, which although contradicting was a great experience, to be able to decide what is best for the team from two different perspectives.
The main challenge we had as a team and as a new department in the company, was not a technological one, but to be accepted by the rest of the organization and to receive the help we needed.
We were fairly new employees with a tech background, compared to people being 10-15 years in the company, mostly project managers with no deep tech knowledge.
We succeeded with inclusion and awareness. We were inviting colleagues to our meetings, plannings and sessions in order to observe our processes and strangles. We challenged them to take pieces of training, to explore the new way of working, and in the end, most of them came onboard to the later stage of the transformation.
